Markham tells John his letters are always welcomed and bring back memories of Florida. He is seeing that Florida's Teta Kappa Nu is making him a member of their Faternal cirle. Markham wishes to be at the Annual Banquet. Markham is expected back at the college. Sorry he was unable to be at John's great dinner.

California poet. Raised near Vacaville, became a schoolteacher in Coloma and later in Oakland. Became famous overnight with publication of "The Man with a Hoe," his protest against brutalization of labor, in "San Francisco Examiner" (January 15, 1899). Following this success Markham moved to New York where he scored another triumph with "Lincoln and Other Poems" (1901). He became a well-known reader of his own poems and lecturer of idealistic views, but his creative output for remainder of life ...
